How is each piece created?

The Original

The original design is hand drawn by TEKSTartist using Montana Acrylic Markers onto a premium 24”x36” canvas provided by Art Alternatives. See this weeks original by clicking here.

Derby Pieces

Derby Pieces are created by crafting a letterpress plate from the original design. This plate is used to transfer the original image onto a premium quality 100% Cotton heavy stock paper. Each piece is pressed by hand using a 55-year-old letterpress. This process creates a unique worn/vintage look that is unique with each piece.

How is the price calculated?

The price for each “derby piece” starts at just $5. Every 5 pieces that sell on the site increases the price by $5.

(This means pieces #1 through #5 sell for $5, pieces #6 through #10 sell for $10, pieces #11 through #15 sell for $15 and so on.)

Do you ship internationally?

YES. We ship worldwide. All shipping costs are calculated at checkout.

Can I return my piece?

Since each piece is handmade, no two are exactly alike.  If you are not happy with the unique characteristics of your letterpress piece, TEKSTartist will gladly exchange it or fully refund your purchase. 100% money back guarantee!

Is your website secure?

Here at The Five Spot Derby we take website security very seriously. We use the latest industry-standard SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption to protect your personal information.

What’s your privacy policy?

We will never rent or sell your personal information to any third party. The only information that is shared, is your shipping address with our shipping provider, FedEx, in order to ship your product to you. We also need to input your credit card information (which is fully encrypted) to our credit card processor, Stripe.com, so that Five Spot Derby can process your payment.

Why letterpress?

In 2012 TEKSTartist created a different original art piece every single day of the year. It was a unique experience, but was far from scalable. We explored various methods to replicate our designs in the highest quality method possible. Letterpress, although a lot more expensive and time consuming to produce offered the handmade, and original aesthetic that we were after.

When does each Derby end?

Each piece is only sold for 7 days (From 11:00AM PST Tuesday to 10:50AM the Following Tuesday).

Can I buy a previous week’s design?

If the any pieces are remaining from the initial print run after its run on the derby, they will be available through the print archive. Once a design is gone, it’s gone for good. That means if you see something you like you should act fast!

General Questions

What is TEKSTart?

TEKSTartist’s unique style draws viewers in. On the surface, each piece is designed to be graphic, striking, and visually engaging. But that is only the beginning. Look closer, and you will see that each piece is almost entirely composed out of text. What first appeared to be a brush stroke reveals itself as a letter from a word (from a quote/song lyric/book passage/movie line) that is relevant to the design.

Who is TEKSTartist?

TEKST has only been creating art since 2011, but in that time the Carlsbad, California based artist has exploded onto the scene, growing exponentially. TEKST’s work can be seen on cars, in music videos, and tattooed onto several of his fans. TEKSTart has been purchased by the leading architects of the social web, New York Times bestselling authors, a multi-Grammy winning singer/songwriter, and by fans across 32 US States and 7 countries. Ask anyone who has met TEKSTartist, and they will tell you “This is just the beginning.”

Do you create custom pieces?

Yes. TEKST can create a unique one-of-a-kind piece for your brand or business, for special events like birthdays and anniversaries, or simply if you have a piece you would love to see created.
